The Simplicity of Scripture

I learned many, many things during my two years at the Sunset International Bible Institute.  But, one of the most valuable things I learned was to appreciate the simplicity of Scripture.  It’s true, God’s word is simple.  Yes, there are passages that are difficult.  But, you don’t have to be a Greek scholar, a professor, or even a Sunset graduate to appreciate the simplicity of Scripture.

All you have to do is sit and read it.  God wants you to know Him.  God wants to know you.  He is going to give you understanding.  He is going to help you benefit from the wisdom of His Word. All you have to do is ask.  He tells us to seek Him first and all else will be given to us.  If you’re seeking, if you’re reading, He will bless you with understanding.

For example, I love the Psalms.  The reason I love the Psalms is because they were written by sinful people.  Really sinful people.  David was a horrible sinner. He commited adultery, he lied, he commited murder, and yet he is still known for being a man after God’s own heart.  In fact, he worte several of the psalms.  He too valued simplictiy. Listen to these words he wrote.

The eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous and His ears are open to their cry.  The face of the Lord is against evildoers, to cut the memory of them from the earth.  The righteous cry, and the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles.  The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Psalm 34:15-18

Even after all the terrible things David did, he was able to write such beautiful, simple things.  He believed in the redeeming power and love of God.  You should too. Start today.  Make sometime to spend reading and praying.  It’s easy. God will help you. God will guide you.  God is great and I am blessed 🙂

Write often

In an effort to better my self, I have set a goal to write more often.  I would like to say I will write daily, but I don’t really see that happening. So, instead, I am challenging myself to write often. Now I do try to journal daily, but this will be an effort to try and blog often.

This weekend, one of our elder’s and his wife, one of our deacon’s and his wife, and Krissi and I attended the Affirming the Faith seminar in Oklahom City, Oklahoma.  This is for Elders, Deacons, Preachers, and their Wives.  It was such a great weekend.  One of the things I enjoyed the most was having no responsibilites.  I didn’t speak, I didn’t lead any public prayers, i didn’t have any responsibilities such as putting up tables, etc.  The only thing I had to do was listen and grow.

And let me tell you, I was so encouraged.  It was great.  The theme was for such a time as this.  It talked about the world and how the world needs Jesus just as much now as it did during Jesus’ time. It was inpsiring.

I hope you are focusing on Jesus. I hope that you aren’t letting the woes of the world get you down. Jesus is the answer.  Jesus is the Way. Jesus is the Truth. Jesus is the Life.  If you want to live, to really live, know Jesus.  Have a relationship with Him.  It’s easy.  Read a little, Pray a little.  Love a lot.  Start today. Focus on Him.  Love Him with all of your heart, mind, and soul!  God is great and I am blessed!

2014, the year of challenges.

At the beginning of the year, I told myself tht 2014 was goig to be my year.  I was going to be healthir, wealthier, and wiser this year. Well, at least healhier and wiser, both spiritually and physically.

I have been setting so many challenges for myself this year it’s like I am a whole new person. I am trying to hard to be the man God wants me to be. I am trying hard to be a Godly man.  So far, so good.

How is your 2014? I hope it is going well. Challenge yourself. Make 2014 your year! You can do it! God is great and I am blessed 🙂

Hello!

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Welcome to my new website.  It’s my hope and prayer to encourage one another as we all try living simple, faithful lives devoted to God.

I will be the first to admit that I don’t know it all.  In fact, I really know very little.  All I know is that God is Lord of my life. That knowledge enables me to make it through life with its ups and downs.  That knowled, God and Jesus being Lord of my life, gives me hope.  Hence, the purpose of this blog.  I want to share that hope with the world.  I want to share God and Jesus with the world.

It’s my hope and prayer that through this blog, others are encouraged to live faithful, simple lives thanks to God and Jesus and the simplicity of scripture.  I love you. God loves you. These are just going to be the musings of a simple, country preacher.  But they are going to be the musings of someone trying to wholey devote themselves to God.  Remember first and foremost, I love you and God loves you.  God is great folks and we are beyond blessed 🙂
